Solgar Multivitamin and Mineral Formula for Pregnant and Lactating Women Review

Prenatal vitamins, to take them or not to take them - that is the question. There are all sorts of sensational articles on the internet discussing whether pregnant women should or shouldn't take multivitamins or supplements prior to, during, and after pregnancy. Or rely on a 'good diet.'  It's guaranteed to confuse and scare, with talk of spina bifida, brain development and especially in the UK, low birth weight. So what's a pregnant woman to do, especially the first time around!? Hmm, it's probably too late and unhelpful to say, "Don’t get pregnant!"

Some women favour taking Vitamin D, Folic acid, Iron or DHA separately, or in addition to prenatal multivitamins to ensure baby develops a healthy brain and body (and there's rightly huge discussions as to the correct levels and absorption qualities of Vitamin D, Folic acid and DHA). Some women favour taking nothing.

While supplements aren't meant to be a substitute for a healthy diet, they can help to make sure your baby’s not missing out. While it's true the baby will take anything and everything it needs from your body for its growth, it also assumes your diet has all the right nutrients for it in the first place. Most importantly, you also need to know what foods to avoid. So, unless you have the time to enjoy the 'right' diet, a prenatal multivitamin won't do any harm and Solgar's Prenatal Multivitamin Nutrients has lots of good ingredients for the entire body, a gentle non-constipating form of iron, and is free of artificial colours.

Just remember, while the midwife and doctor are crucial they won't or can’t tell you everything. So read around, use independent nutritionists if needs be, and speak to other mums. It's your baby, your body, your life - good luck!
